Once the data cube has been generated then
the process of automated mapping of purchase order and invoice line item
description to the selected categorization can begin. This process is one of
‘pattern matching’ which is built on the foundation of many years of
categorization carried out by Rosslyn Analytics. From our mapping dictionary we
are able to associate unique patterns of word to specific categories at varying
levels.
This categorization process can account for
between 60% and 80% of categorization needs. The remainder is done
semi-automatically using tools devised to speed up the process. All new mappings
are also stored in our mapping dictionary ready for future use and will ensure
that further downloads are optimally and efficiently categorized.
Data enrichment beyond categorization is
dependent on the availability of the relevant reference tables, third-party
party data and needs of the client. We normally review and optimize fully the
vendor master file. Parenting, de-duplication, risk profiling, environmental and
diversity factors are only a few of the potential additions that can be made to
current supplier data.

- Cleansing – Prior to being loaded all data is cleansed. A process of
detecting and correcting (or removing) corrupt or inaccurate
records from a record set,
table, or database. After cleansing, a data set will be consistent with other similar data sets in the system. The inconsistencies detected or removed may
have been originally caused by different
data dictionary definitions of similar entities, may have been caused by user entry errors, or may
have been corrupted in transmission or storage. The process includes removing
or validating and correcting values.
- Data Classification & Enrichment – rapidintel.com categorizes up
to 100% of all spend data and is able to overlay this with additional 3rd
party data feeds such as D&B and commodity/market indices and prices.

supplier names which are then mapped to the client’s taxonomy of choice.
